God could not reach everywhere to take care of not only man but also animals and birds in this world. That is why he created 'Mother'. Such a loving mother gives birth to us. Shows this beautiful world. Grows us with love. Cultivates us. Takes immense toil for us, starves herself at times; But this 'mother' who lovingly feeds her children is even better than God. Everyone has a maternal instinct. She wants you to be a mother, to have children, to live happily and happily. She wants her children to have eternal happiness and a long life. For this she observes rituals and fasts. One of these fasts is 'Pithori Amavasya.' This fast is observed on Amavasya in Shravan. It is said in the scriptures that this fast should be done only by married women.

On this day in the morning seven pots are offered before God after being purified. Idols of Brahmi, Maheshwari, Varahi, Kaumari, Indrayani, Vaishnavi and Chamunda are made with sandalwood or flour. They are worshipped with 64 arecanuts corresponding to the 64 Yoginis. They fast all day. After the aarti in the evening, the first offering of kheer and puri is made to the god. Then they offer Kheer and Puri to Chandra. Brahma is also given his share and offered Dakshina and salutations. After sitting before God, the mother makes her children stand behind her and asks them the question 'Who is the guest?' On that the children give prasad saying 'we-are' and tell them Tupta. She prays to God for abundant life, glory and happiness for them.

Brahma-Vishnu and Mahesh tested Anasuya and they appeared to he as a guest. Anasuya's motherhood awakened. She to these childrenas a suckling baby to her and she fed them and satisfied them. Because it is the duty of a chaste woman to satisfy a guest. Such a reference is also given in Gurucharitra. Pithori Amavasya is considered as 'Mother's Day'. So children are also given kheer and puri to eat.
