Mumbai's coastal road is going to throttle the sea: Koli community registers a strong objection

Mumbai, 28th: Due to the Coastal Road, the sea which is the glory of Mumbai will go away and the fishing community will be destroyed. The Maharashtra Fishermen Action Committee has demanded that instead of building a coastal road for only 7% of the vehicle owners, the suburban railway services should be made more efficient. Such an objection has been registered with the Municipal Corporation. The coastal road will lead to the destruction of the mangroves and sand and rocks along the coast. It will have a serious impact on biodiversity and future generations will have to pay the price. The immediate impact of the coastal road will be on fishing-dependent Koliwadas. Inundation of the sea will wipe out the fishing grounds. At the same time, the ancestral right of the Koli community to live on the shores will be destroyed.What will the municipality do about the preservation of Koliwadas, Gaothans, forts, heritage sites etc. while constructing the coastal road? How will they be rehabilitated? The objection action committee noted that such things were not mentioned in the project report itself.
Improve the railway service instead!
The coastal road will be built keeping the 7% of citizens with private cars. Sacrificing an entire ocean for only 7% of citizens is not worth it. Instead, Rambhau Patil, president of the Maharashtra Fishermen Action Committee, has suggested that the suburban railway service, which millions of ordinary citizens use to travel daily, should be developed.

मुंबई, ता, २८ : सागरीकिनारा मार्गामुळे (कोस्टल रोड)मुंबईचे वैभव असलेल्या समुद्राचाजीब जाणार असून मासेमारी ,करणारा कोळी समाजच उद्ध्वस्तहोणार आहे. केवळ सात टक्केवाहनमालकांसाठी कोस्टल रोड नबांधता त्याऐवजी उपनगरी रेल्वेसेवाअधिक सक्षम कराबी, अशीमागणी महाराष्ट्र मच्छीमार कृतीसमितीने केली आहे. तशी हरकतमहापालिकेकडे नोंदविण्यात आली १आहे.सागरी किनारी मार्गामुळे बाखारफुटीची जंगले आणिकिनाऱ्यावरील खडक-होईल. त्याचा जैवविविधतेवर गंभीरपरिणाम होणार असून भविष्यातीलपिढ्यांना त्याची किंमत चुकवावीलागेल. सागरी मार्गाचा तत्काळपरिणाम मासेमारीवर अवलंबूनअसलेल्या कोळीवाड्यांबर होणारआहे. समुद्रातील भरणीमुळेमासेमारीची वहीवाटच पुसूनजाईल. त्याचबरोबर किनाऱ्यांवरवावरण्याचा कोळी समाजाचानैसर्गिक अधिकारच नष्ट होई.त्यापक्षे रेल्वे सेवा सुधारा!सागरी किनारा मार्ग खासगी गाड्या असलेल्या सातवाळू नष्ट टक्के नागरिकांना डोळ्यांसमोर ठेवून बनविण्यात येणारआहे. फक्त सात टक्के नागरिकांसाठी संपूर्ण समुद्राचाबळी घेणे योग्य नाही. त्याऐवजी रोज लाखो सामान्यनागरिक प्रवास करत असलेल्या उपनगरी रेल्वेसेबेचाविकास करावा, अशी सूचना महाराष्ट्र मच्छीमार कृतीसमितीचे अध्यक्ष रामभाऊ पाटील यांनी केली आहे.
किनारा मार्ग बांधताना कोळीवाडे,गावठाणे, किल्ले, वारसा स्थळेआदींच्या जतनाबाबत महापालिकाकाय करणार? त्यांचे पुनर्वसन कसेहोणार? आदी गोष्टींचा उल्लेखचप्रकल्प अहवालातच करण्यातआलेला नाही, असे आक्षेप कृतीसमितीने नोंदबिले.
