Approval for two-storied houses in Koliwada

Mumbai, 16th: The state government and the environment department through a notification have allowed storied houses in Koliwadas in Mumbai up to 33 feet in height. Municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta assured the Koli delegation that they will take an immediate decision in this regard and start the implementation. 45 Koliwadas and 100 Gaothans (villages) in Mumbai will benefit from this decision. Damodar Tandel, President of Akhil Maharashtra Machchimar Kruti Samiti, met the Municipal Commissioners on Tuesday (16th) and presented the state government notifications. According to the information provided by the Urban Development Department, Tandel demanded an immediate decision from the Commissioner regarding the height of houses in Koliwada. He also met Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar. The mayor also assured that the demands of the fishermen community would be agreed to.

Tandel informed of Commissioner Mehta's assurance that the State and Central notifications will be adhered to.

At present, the municipality does not allow the demolition of old houses in gaothans and the construction of new houses in their place. But Tandel claimed that if this notification is implemented in Mumbai, the oldest houses in all the gaothans will be demolished to make way for the construction of new houses. He also demanded that the parameters of SRA and Slum Redevelopment should not be applied to houses in Koliwadas.
