A petition has been filed in the High Court on behalf of Worli Koliwada fisherman. They say they are not opposed to the project; but the fishing business is in danger because of it. Since the shore from Marine Lines to Kandivali is being filled, the petitioners say that the fishing business of many families has been threatened.

Mumbai; 27th: The High Court on Wednesday (27) directed the state government to explain its position in the petition challenging the Coastal Road, an ambitious project of the state government. The bench also directed the police not to prevent fishermen from setting nets along the shore as work on the project has not yet started.

The residents of Worli Koliwada have filed a petition in the High Court against the Coastal Road project. On Wednesday, the hearing was held before the bench of the Chief Justice on the Naresh Patil and Justice Nitin Jamdar. The association of citizens who petitioned the court had already given a 'no objection' certificate to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation two years ago, said Advocate Anil Sakhre on behalf of the Municipal Corporation.

However, the petitioners disclosed that that organization was not theirs. The Municipal Corporation has pressed that all legal matters regarding Coastal Road have been fulfilled.

The police have prohibited the petitioners from fishing with nets. Petitioners had given a statement against it; However, the bench was told that the administration did not take notice.

The High Court directed that fishing should not be stopped as the coastal road work has not started.

The bench ordered that the state government should disclose the claims in the petition by Monday (4th). The 'further' hearing on the petition will be held after two weeks.
