Residents want a sea link instead!Online Petition against expenditure for coastal road
Mumbai, 14th: Local residents have started an online petition demanding that a sea link be built from Nariman Point to Worli instead of the coastal road due to the increase in construction costs and sea encroachments. In a month, 25,000 citizens have supported the petition: after receiving the support of 1 lakh citizens, the petition will be sent to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister.
About 13,000 crores or 1300 crores per km is going to be spent for the approx 10-km long Coastal Road project from Nariman Point to Worli. In comparison, the 17 km Sea Link from Bandra to Versova will cost 7,000 crore, i.e. 650 crore per km. It was decided to build a Coastal Road to reduce costs; But this is costing twice as much as an alternate sea link. Costs will increase due to filling the sea. After filling the sea, the trapped water can seep into the land on the other side. The back-bay area was thus created by dumping fill into the sea. Its adverse effect can be seen near Versova, said Dr. Nilesh Bakshi.
There has been no local opposition to the proposed coastal road; But it will cause huge damage to the environment. Therefore, Citizens for Responsible Development, an organization of local residents, has started an online petition for the demand that a sea link should be built instead of a coastal road. 25,000 have supported this petition within a month. Our aim is to get the support of one lakh citizens, said Dr. Bakshi. The sea link will not obstruct the passage of fishing boats. However, the coastal road will block the passage of boats. As a result, thousands of families dependent on fishing are likely to face starvation.

मुंबई, .ता. १४ : बांधकामखर्चातील वाढ आणि समुद्रात होणाऱ्याअतिक्रमणांमुळे नरिमन पॉईंट ते वरळीपर्यंतकिनारी रस्त्याऐवजी सागरी सेतू बांधावा,"अशी मागणी करीत स्थानिक रहिवाशांनीऑनलाईन याचिका (ऑनलाईन पिटीशन)सुरू केली आहे. एका महिन्यात २५ हजारनागरिकांनी याचिकेला पाठिंबा दिलाआहेः एक लाख नागरिकांचा पाठिंबामिळाल्यानंतर याचिका पंतप्रधान आणिमुख्यमंत्र्यांकडे पाठवण्यात येणार आहे.
नरिमन पॉईंट ते वरळीपर्यंतच्यासुमारे १० किलोमीटरच्या कोस्टल रोडपरकल्पासाठी सुमारे १३ हजार कोटी म्हणजेकिलोमीटरमागे १३०० कोटी रुपये खर्चयेणार आहे. त्या तुलनेत वांद्रे ते वर्सोबाअशा १७ किलोमीटरच्या सी-लिंकसाठी७००० कोटी म्हणजे किलोमीटरमागे ६५०कोटी रुपये खर्च येईल. खर्च कमी व्हावाम्हणून कोस्टल रोड बांधण्याचा निर्णयघेतला; मात्र त्यासाठी सी-लिंकपेक्षादुप्पर खर्च होणार आहे. समुद्रात भरावटाकल्यामुळे खर्चात वाढ होणार आहे.समुद्रात भराव टाकल्यानंतर अडलेलेपाणी दुसरीकडील भूभागावर शिरू शकते.बॅक-बें परिसर अशा प्रकारे समुद्रात भरावटाकून बनवण्यात आला होता. त्याचाअनिष्ट परिणाम वर्सोब्याजवळ पाहायलामिळतो, असे ब्रीच कँडीमधीळ रहिवासीडॉ. नीलेश बक्षी म्हणाले. .
प्रस्तावित किनारी स्स्त्यालास्थानिकांचा विरोध नाही; मात्र त्यामुळेपर्यावरणाचे प्रचंड नुकसान होणार आहे.
म्हणून किनारी रस्त्याऐवजी सागरी सेतूबांधावा, अशा मागणीसाठी सिटिझन फॉररिस्पॉन्सिबळ डेव्हलपमेंट यां स्थानिकरहिवाशांच्या ' संघटनेने ऑनलाईनयाचिका सुरू केली आहे. या यांचिकेठामहिनाभरात २५ हजार नागरिकांनी पाठिंबादिला आहे. एक लांख नागरिकांचा पाठिंबामिळवण्याचे आमचे उदिष्ट आहे, असेडॉ. बक्षी यांनी सांगितलें. सी-लिंकमुळेमासेमारी नौकांच्या मार्गात कोणताहीअडथळा येत नाही. परंतु, कोस्टल रोडमुळेनौकांचा मार्ग अडला जाईल. परिणामीमासेमारीवर अवलंबून असणाऱ्या हजारोकुटुंबांवर उपासमारीची वेळ ओढवण्याचीशक्‍यता व्यक्‍त केली जात आहे.
