Paranjape Committee report ignored
On May 26, 1987, the then Chief Secretary of Maharashtra K.G. Paranjape Committee’s report has strongly ordered not filling up the sea and creeks and should not build a sea road or subway. Therefore, environmental experts feel that the government should stop the work on the coastal road.
"Mumbai's sea level is rising day by day. Even with government projects like coastal roads, we are swiftly heading towards destruction", said Advocate Girish Raut, Convener, Indian Life and Earth Movement.

Mumbai, 17th : Due to several reasons including development projects, the sand flats of Dadar, Prabhadevi, Shivaji Park, Mahim and Versova are on the verge of destruction due to the Worli-Bandra project. From Juhu to Gorai there has been a lot of sand erosion. Due to the filling of the coastal highway project, there is a possibility that this crisis will exacerbate and the beaches will be destroyed. There is a fear that the mangrove belt will also be destroyed.
For the Mumbai Municipal Corporation's ambitious coastal road, more filling will have to be done in the sea. The Municipal Corporation also filed a petition in the Bombay High Court for permission in this regard.
It is feared that the filling this 25.5 km stretch will erode and destroy all the sandy beaches of Mumbai from Girgaon to Manori and Gorai, expressed Advocate Girish Raut, Convener, Indian Life and Earth Protection Movement.

परांजपे समितीच्या अहवाळाकडे दुर्लक्ष
२६ मे १९८७ रोजी महाराष्ट्राचे तत्कालीन प्रमुख सचिव के, जी. परांजपे समितीच्याअहवालानुसार मुंबईचा समुद्र व खाड्यांत भराव करू नये आणि सागरी रस्ताकिंवा भुयारी रेल्वे करू नये, असे बजावले आहे. त्यामुळे सरकारने किनारीरस्त्याचे काम थांबवावे, असे पर्यावरण तज्ज्ञांना वाटते.

मुंबई महापालिकेच्यामहत्त्वाकांक्षी किनारी मार्गासाठीसमुद्रात आणखी भराव टाकावालागणारा आहे. यासंबंधीपरवानगीसाठी महापालिकेने मुंबई उच्चन्यायालयात याचिकाही दाखल केली.
२५.५ किलोमीटर या मार्गाच्याभरावामुळे गिरगाव ते मनोरी,गोराईपर्यंत मुंबईच्या सर्व वाळूच्याकिनाऱ्यांची धूप होणार व ते उद्‌ध्वस्तहोणार असल्याची भीती. भारतीयजीवन व पृथ्वीरक्षण चळवळीचेनिमंत्रक ऑड. गिरीश राऊत यांनीव्यक्‍त केली आहे.
