Mumbai, 12th: Fishermen have strongly opposed the Green (Central) Park to be built on a 300-acre plot in the sea at Cuffe Parade. The All-Maharashtra Fishermen Action Committee claims that this project will not only endanger fishing, but Mumbai will also be threatened due to filling in the sea.

There are more than 400 fishing boats in the Cuffe Parade neighborhood of ​​Colaba and employment of 25,000 people depends on them. Devendra Tandel, the Chairman of the Action Committee alleged that the passage of these boats will be permanently closed due to this central park in the sea.

Koliwadas are part of Mumbai's ancient culture. Tandel also mentioned that the first duty of the state government is to preserve these Koliwadas. A warning has also been given to start an agitation against the government if this project is not cancelled.

He alleges that earlier, Mumbai was going to be Shanghaied, but now it will become a Venice, submerged in water. The coastal road will increase the water level in Mumbai. Sea water is already overflowing onto the road at Dadar, Worli and Cuffe Parade. Now if 300 acres are filled, this risk will certainly increase even more. Tandel also alleged that it is a conspiracy of the government and the municipality to turn the city into another Venice.

Fishermen had opposed the project from the beginning. This project was mentioned in the municipal development plan. A consultant was also appointed for the survey; However, due to the opposition of the locals, this work could not be done, and the discussion was stopped for the last one and a half years. However, tomorrow (Saturday) the park department of the municipality has decided to make a presentation to the local fishermen about this project.

It is clear from a study conducted previously that the Central Park will destroy the breeding grounds of sea algae, plants and insects. A demand has been sent to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray through a letter to cancel this project.
