Boats in Uttan take shelter along Dabhol creek due to storm

Bhayandar (Correspondent): Due to a storm warning in Arabian sea, fishing boats of Uttan returned to the shore unharmed while some boats have taken shelter in Dabhol creek in Ratnagiri district. The Meteorological Department has issued a storm warning in the Arabian Sea. This storm is likely between 1st and 2nd December. During this period, wind speed of 0 to 60 kmph is expected along with rain. Therefore, most of the boats from Uttan returned to shore on Tuesday evening, and some boats on Wednesday morning. Around 20 to 25 boats took refuge in Dabhol Bay of Ratnagiri. These boats go as far as Ratnagiri and Goa as they do deep sea fishing. The storm made it non-feasible for them to return to Uttan. Because one ferry costs about 35-40,000 rupees worth of diesel, these fishermen took shelter in the nearby Dabhol Bay. They have also conveyed the message that they have reached the shore safely to their family in Uttan. Two days after the storm subsides, these boats will float back into the sea, forcing the fishermen to return to their fishing grounds due to the storm, causing a loss of millions of rupees to the fishermen.

Demand for panchnama of loss of fishermen - Letter to Ministry of Fisheries for compensation

Malad, 1st (Correspondent) A request was made to the Fisheries Ministry of the state government on behalf of the Fishermen Congress to compensate for the loss due to unseasonal rains. Three cyclones in a row early in the season have caused losses to fishermen. After the start of the fishing season in August, the cyclone hit, and some boats sank Now again there are fears of damage due to stormy weather. Fishermen have brought their boats ashore as a low pressure zone has formed in the sea. Apart from this, there is a possibility of financial loss as it is not possible to dry the fish caught so far due to rain.

The fish kept for drying on bamboo stilts is soaked due to rain. The cost of fuel for fishing boats and ice purchased to preserve fish has been wasted. Therefore, on behalf of the Fishermen's Congress, the office-bearers of the organization said that a request has been made to the Fishery Industry Department to go to the fishermen's village and conduct a panchnama there.
