Centre's soft policy on 'enhancement' backs notification of appointment of officers on environment authority

Dahanu, 13th : The Central Government is going to withdraw the notification for appointment of an administrative govt officer instead of a retired Justice as Chairman of the Environment Conservation Authority, established as per instructions of the Supreme Court for environmental protection and development of Dahanu Taluka. The Center has filed such an affidavit in the Supreme Court.

About the enhancement of the port: The efforts of the Sangharsh Samiti and the fishermen's organization have been successful and the Sangharsh Samiti has demanded that the central government should issue an order to withdraw the notification and implement it immediately.

The Central Government had set up a conservation authority to protect the environment in Dahanu. Later, the Center issued a notification to appoint administrative officers on this authority on a temporary basis. As soon as the Supreme Court expressed its displeasure, the Center withdrew the notification.

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court by the Sangharsh Committee, National Fish Workers Forum, Thane District Central Fishermen's Union regarding the enhancement of the port. During the hearing of the petition, the matter of the Center appointing an administrative officer on the Environment Protection Authority was brought before the court. As soon as the court objected to it, the government withdrew the notification of appointment of officers.
