Karnataka boat seized

Ratnagiri, 9th: The fishermen of Harnai have taken an opposive stance due to the proliferation of highspeed boats from outside. This is being taken seriously and fines have been imposed against the traditional boats by the Assistant Marine Department. A Karnataka fishing boat has been seized at Dabhol, with fish worth about 36,000 rupees in it.

It was reported that a boat was fishing about 18 to 20 knots from the Dabhol coast around noon on Saturday (8th). A boat from Karnataka named John Lawrence, was illegally fishing within the district limits. A team of the Fisheries Department took action against that boat. The boat has been seized and brought to Dabhol port.

Fishermen in trouble due to land breezes

No fish; no work for gillnetters

Ratnagiri, 9th :- For the last two days, fishermen have been hassled due to the changing environment, and the presence of jellyfish in the waters are now also facing an obstacle of strong winds. Therefore, for the last two weeks, the fishermen are not getting any fish and many gillnetters are not willing to leave the port.

Land breezes have been blowing since the past 2 days, so there is a huge current in the sea. Small fishermen are hindered from entering the sea. Many fishermen who fish with two-cylinder, timber boats are not ready to go to sea. Several boats are anchored in the harbor. Jellyfish and dolphins have been seen frequently along the Konkan coast for the past two months. Due to these swarming fish, the fishermen have to bear losses by tearing their nets. The fish caught in these nets also turn to the deep sea. As a result, no fish is caught in the net. Other fishermen including trawlers have been getting Bangda (mackerel) in the past few days. The price is also good. But the wind has affected fishing.
